As far as I can see, most contributing people (achille-roussel, stevevls, rhansen2, Pryz, etc.) have left the segment :(. So maybe as you recommend, fork is more reasonable, I am also interested in |
I hope we can better support this library in 2025, but our Kafka team is very small right now. Let us get back to you on this topic in January. |
@erushing that would be great, as you see people is using it and eager to add fixes and improvements. |
It's really sad that it is on a lower priority or simply that team is outmanned. I had to switch to another module to avoid some problems that we were having with it that the community already sorted and submitted fixes... I really enjoyed using it and I hope it can get back alive! |
I like using this library, but it hasn't been updated and released in quite a while. Looking at Releases I see last release in December 13, 2023. At this point there's a few issues I am running into. One of which is addressed in #1230 related to SASL which hasn't been merged yet. This is also holding me back from contributing to his library as I am not sure if it will be accepted/merged. My code would also depend on that PR and possibly other SASL related issues getting addressed first. |
@Abdulsametileri is right; all the core maintainers of this library have moved on from Segment at this point. A fork would likely be the best approach if you'd like to re-start active development. https://github.com/twmb/franz-go is also one popular actively-developed alternative you may want to look at. |
Describe the solution you would like
There are 160 open issues and 70 PRs not reviewed. I myself created bugs and PRs more than 1/2 year ago and got little to no feedback.
A statement on whether segmentio is doing investment on this repository, if only by reviewing PRs other people are creating.
If the answer is no, I wonder if there could be some people interested on maintaining it and the ownership could be transferred (or else forked).
