Description
Hallo Rene,
Hartelijk bedankt! I started using your project (v1.0) in 2022/23 and incorporated it into my HA install in our new (old fixer upper) house. I've recently upgraded two of the cameras to v1.6 and am pleased w/ the function.
Pluses!
- The 1.6 seems to be an improvement over 1.0.
- It seems to be perhaps a bit more stable/faster/responsive (I know you took out the OTA upgrader, thats OK).
- The decision to LIST just IP addresses in the URL's instead of bonjour/avahi/zeroconf is fine.
- Great to have the URLs linked bottom of page for RTSP, stream and snapshot.
My own problems
- I had to fiddle an inordinate amount to get it working w/ HA, but now I've got the routine down and it's reproducible...
- I had forgotten completely how to use PlatformIO, since I work normally w/ ArduinoIDE. I made mention below of a site/page by a Belgian IT specialist who has up a definitive guide to using PIO.
Stuff to think about:
-
a RESET/REBOOT button would be great... (like GREAT) but I understand that software solutions are not always 100% dependable on a basic MCU + Cam Module like this... Still it would be great.
-
I don't know for sure why this is... BUT...
- I am unable to reliably (almost never) play the RTSP stream on VLC on my Intel 64bit Debian Bookworm linux workstation.
- DOES play with Parole Media Player (.5 second delay - acceptable) and
- DOES play w/ mpv Video player (20 second delay)
- I don't know what the expectations for streaming/streams are for each of these players, nor whether or not they differ in that respect
-
This isn't a critique of your site... but a pointer to https://michiel.vanderwulp.be/platformio-core-cli-installation-linux.html might be helpful for some folks. Ja, geen nederlander, maar wel een heel slim vlaams man.

The
hostname
that looks like zeroconf addresses does not resolve with any of my machines. Is it actually just a hostname, and not something resolvable by other machines running avahi/bonjour/zeroconf?
Vriendlijk groeten, kind and high regards,
Dave
