Positron app size for Mac #6381

The installer for macOS is currently a universal installer for both ARM and Intel Macs, which is why it is about twice as big as the others. You are totally correct that a big chunk of the installer size comes from software that we bundle, including Quarto and Pandoc. This was a purposeful choice because our intention for Positron is for it to feel "batteries included" for important data science tasks such as reproducible authoring/reporting. Can you say a little more about the problems the current installer size presents for you, and what you are planning on using Positron for (if for example, you don't want the ability to use Pandoc or Quarto)? |

The app size for Mac is 600MB+ while for other OS it ranges from 100-300MB. While this cannot be apple2apple comparisons, but what is the reason for this difference?
Does MacOS need more inbult+packaged items for Positron to work?
I see that "quatro" is pre-packaged into the App and is ~626MB on my macbook which is 50% of the dmg file size !
Can "quatro" be made user-installable separately and hence removed from dmg?
