I just happened across this again. Not sure how I lost it, but it would be handy to use FFPROBE for metadata

I moved this issue to the imageio-ffmpeg project.

I've always been reluctant to use ffprobe, because it would mean we'd have to shipt the binary exe for it too (more complexity, double package size).
