Copyright year update action

Does it make sense to run this automatically - should it not be triggered by the first commit to main every year / done manually? Perhaps I'm misunderstanding what the copyright year means but I would have thought it's whenever the last work on a package was done, which is not currently checked by the package.

Hi Seb 👋 Either option works – it is primarily a choice of flavor. Honestly, I proposed the way that seemed obvious to me personally, and I understand that may be arbitrary for others.

If you prefer it being triggered upon first commit of the year, I'm happy to merge an additional workflow that people can choose between (or (un)comment in the existing flow).

My understanding RE copyright law, is that copyright does not expire based on the date the work was produced but on whether the authors are alive or not. In that sense, the year something was produced is not as important legally, and the license year is more about signaling when it was produced.
