SQLite backend

Hi,

Thanks for the function! I have a version of this function that uses an SQLite to store data rather then the flat JSON file, which should be more robust at scale.   Would you be interesting in accepting a PR for that? It's supposed for new implementation and does not support migration of data from JSON to SQLite
